Impacts of Indoor Ambient Quality on Human Health and Productivity

The impact of Indoor Ambient Quality (IAQ) on human beings may consist of undesired health effects of different types, ranging from sensory annoyance or discomfort to severe health injuries. "Health" is defined according to the well-known WHO definition as "A state of complete physical, mental and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity".

The health of susceptible and sensitive individuals can be impacted even on low air pollution days. Short-term exposure to air pollutants is closely related to COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), cough, shortness of breath, wheezing, asthma, respiratory disease, and high rates of hospitalization (a measurement of morbidity).
The long-term effects associated with air pollution are chronic asthma, pulmonary insufficiency, cardiovascular diseases, and cardiovascular mortality. According to a Swiss cohort study, diabetes seems to be induced after long-term air pollution exposure. Moreover, air pollution seems to have various malign health effects in early human life, such as respiratory, cardiovascular, mental, and perinatal disorders , leading to infant mortality or chronic disease in adult age. The health effects are presented by organ or system affected and by type of effect. It should be noted that several of these effects may be present simultaneously or may be caused by the same agents or sources. Health effects may be experienced soon after exposure or, possibly, years later. Therefore, we may distinguish short-term or immediate effect and long-term or delayed effect.
Djinn productivity index (PI) explanation
Djinn productivity index estimates how the indoor environment affects human productivity. 100 Djinn PI means that the indoor environment suits for the best (full) human productivity. DPI 60 means that productivity losses are equivalent to 40% of working time.Many others factor influence on productivity too. Stress, room talking, physical excitement. In some situations their impact may dominate. In case of their absence an impact of quality of indoor environment measured by PI is the main factor.

Usually indoor environment quality is not comprehended by a person during the work process. That is why it is important to analyze it by additional services.
Djinn PI mostly focused on the productivity of cognitive activity, office work (not manual labor) and effects of indoor environmental influences on it. Methodology of the Djinn productivity index or in others words Human Decision Making Performance is based on research by cognitive scientists from various Universities.
